A flexible approach to hardware deployment

STAR-CCM+ is designed and continuously developed to utilize the latest computing hardware available and provides a flexible licensing structure to ensure cost effectiveness is maintained.

The client-server approach to engineering analysis.
To reflect the distributed nature of the modern project team, STAR-CCM+ is written using a client server architecture. The server performs the numerical calculation while the client is used to control and visualize it. This approach means that while the simulation is run on a high performance compute cluster or a multi-core workstation or a mainframe computer, the STAR-CCM+ client may be used to analyze the data on a lightweight remote machine such as an ordinary laptop or desktop. Network traffic is kept to a minimum meaning that simulations may be controlled even when compute facilities are geographically remote, enabling a completely flexible work environment. Members of a team may also work in collaboration connecting multiple clients to a single STAR-CCM+ server.

A flexible licensing model.
As computer power has increased the cost of the hardware has reduced. The STAR-CCM+ approach to licensing enables you to fully utilize your computing resources by breaking the link between software price and processor count. The revolutionary Power-Session license allows STAR-CCM+ to be run on an unlimited number of cores for a fixed cost. Power-On-Demand is your gateway to fully flexible computing with usage counted by the hour and not by the process or core, meaning that extra licensing capacity is available at times of high demand or when cloud computing is chosen. Both of these models help you maximize your ROI by reducing the simulation cost.
